Latest update from the All-party Parliamentary Dog Advisory Welfare Group (APDAWG)
Hello APDAWG Friends! |
Summer Dog TipsThis time of year can often be the most dangerous for our pooches. Please be aware of hot pavements/roads causing blistering of pads (pictured) & walk dogs early/late & preferably on grass. Other summer hazards include adder bites, grass seeds, ticks & fleas, sunburn to areas of skin with reduced pigment/hair cover, dogs swallowing corn on the cobs/meaty bones from BBQs causing gastrointestinal obstruction, as well as kebab sticks causing gut perforation & dogs locked in cars even with the window slightly down/parked in shade. Please keep your dog cool/hydrated at all times & if you suspect yours, or someone else’s dog is suffering from any of the above dangers, then please seek appropriate help ASAP. |
Campaigns UpdateIt’s been a very busy few months for all dog-related campaigns in Westminster including #LucysLaw, #FinnsLaw, #PetTheftReform & the debate ‘relating to including Staffordshire Bull Terriers in the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991’ on Mon 16th July in Westminster Hall. On behalf of Dr Lisa Cameron MP & APDAWG we’d like to say a massive WELL DONE on all the exciting progress being made for our four-legged friends. Keep signing & sharing petitions to ensure dog welfare is debated in the Houses of Parliament & positive change can be made. Perhaps consider starting your own e-petition if there’s a dog welfare issue you feel strongly about that hasn’t been discussed yet? |
Save the Date(s)!APDAWG’s 3rd meeting of the year will take place on Tues Oct 30th from 5-7pm, in Boothroyd Room, Portcullis House, Houses of Parliament, Westminster. Furthermore, our 4th (& final) meeting of 2018 will be held on Tues 11th Dec 5-7pm in the same room (both discussion topics TBC). We hope you’ll be able to join us for both & thank you all for your ongoing support of APDAWG. |
PupAid Dog ShowThe annual PupAid fun dog show raising awareness of puppy farm cruelty & rescue dog adoption takes place on Sat 1st Sept in London’s Primrose Hill. PupAid features celeb judges, have-a-go agility, doggy displays, vegan food, live music & lots more.
