Lucy’s Law Update

After the incredibly generous support of celebs like Ricky Gervais (pictured above), Brian May, Rachel Riley, Peter Egan, Victoria Stilwell & countless others, the signing & sharing of the petition by yourselves, as well as all the phenomenal publicity surrounding the campaign to help end puppy farm cruelty – the Lucy’s Law petition reached its 100K target in just 13 days! The petition was then presented to No. 10 Downing Street last week by (from left to right) Marc Abraham (TV Vet, PupAid founder, APDAWG co-founder), Laura Critchley (PupAid), Beverley Cuddy (Dogs Today Magazine), Lisa Garner & Plum Pudding (Lucy the Rescue Cavalier), Sarah Clover (Barrister & Institute of Licensing), Linda Goodman (C.A.R.I.A.D.), Andrew Penman (The Mirror). The petition was then debated in Parliament later that day (see below post).

Lucy’s Law Debated in Parliament

On Monday 21st May the Lucy’s Law debate was held in the House of Commons & was very well-attended by cross-party MPs – most of whom had attended our APDAWG MPs drop-in event in Westminster the week before. We’re thrilled to tell you that after a fascinating two hours in Westminster Hall the debate was an overwhelming success for the campaign to ban 3rd party commercial puppy sellers e.g. pet shops, including an excellent speech from APDAWG Chair Dr Lisa Cameron MP & some very promising words indeed from DEFRA Minister George Eustice in his summing-up. You can watch the whole debate here & read the transcript here. Once again, from all the APDAWG team, thank you so much for supporting the Lucy’s Law petition to ensure it was debated in Westminster. We eagerly await the Government’s official response to their Call for Evidence to ban 3rd party puppy sales.
