MICROCHIPS: Government Consultation on dog and cat Microchipping and Scanning: Responses should be received by 17 February 2021.

DEFRA: We are launching this consultation to seek your views on proposals to make cat microchipping a compulsory requirement of cat ownership in England. We are also taking this opportunity to consult on the compulsory scanning of pets (dogs and cats) for microchips.

What needs to change to make microchipping work?

We want compulsory scanning and microchip registration checks at pets first veterinary treatment, at rescues on hand-ins and authorities to help reunited stolen and missing pets.

We also want the Government to create a centralised database for quick access to all authorities, to help reunite registered missing microchipped pets:- https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/551556
